Autism Level 1 - Working with People with Autism

 

Wherever possible with our online training courses we have a guest speaker who is an expert by experience

 

Aim

To provide attendees with an up to date understanding of autism, of legislation relating to autism and some basic strategies to help them support people with autism.

 

Target group

This course is relevant for everyone who knows and/or supports a person on the autism spectrum, including families, support workers, teachers and other relevant health and social care professionals.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • Describe what autism is, and recognise the need to take a positive approach
  • Describe the key issues involved in diagnosing autism
  • Adapt their communication styles and understand strategies that may be helpful
  • Explain the relevant legislation that links to autism
  • Recognise the links between anxiety and autism
  • Work with families
  • Identify best practice approaches and strategies for working with people on the autistic spectrum
  • Access additional resources

 

Training Methods

The day will be run in a participative way, using delegates’ existing knowledge as a platform. Training methods will include paired work, small group work, quizzes, multi-media clips, case studies, and a limited amount of lecturing.

 

Exercises and activities will be designed to meet the varied learning needs of the participants.
