Communication Skills

 

Aim

A training session covering a variety of skills relating to communication to raise awareness of the importance of good communication skills within care services

Staff working in health and social care settings

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • Define communication
  • Identify motivations and barriers to communication
  • Describe communication cycles & traps
  • Identify cross cultural communication
  • Demonstrate active listening skills
  • Describe how behaviour may be used as methods of communication
  • Identify alternative and augmented communication methods
  • Describe various theories of communication

 

Training Methods

The day will be run in a participative way, using delegates’ existing knowledge as a platform.Training methods will include paired work, small group work, quizzes, multi-media clips, case studies, and a limited amount of lecturing.

Exercises and activities will be designed to meet the varied learning needs of the participants.
