Diabetes Awareness

This awareness course talks about insulin but we don't provide training on the administration of this medication. Please contact your local health care provider.

 

Aims

A training session to increase awareness of the signs and symptoms of diabetes and the treatments that are available.

 

Target Group

This training is designed to be delivered to staff working in health and social care services, across statutory services, and the voluntary, independent and private sectors.

 

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • Identify the types of diabetes and the common causes of its development
  • Define the approaches to the management and treatment of diabetes
  • Define how diabetes may affect a person’s general health
  • Understand how to apply good practice in maintaining a stable blood glucose in people with diabetes

 

Training Methods

The day will be run in a participative way, using delegates’ existing knowledge as a platform. Training methods will include paired work, small group work, quizzes, multi-media clips, case studies, and a limited amount of lecturing.

 

Exercises and activities will be designed to meet the varied learning needs of the participants.  Participants with specific learning needs will be supported in whichever way is most appropriate.
