Epilepsy Awareness & Buccal Midazolam

This course is delivered by an expert by experience.

 

Aim

A training session course to provide a greater knowledge and understanding of the condition of epilepsy, which includes training on the administration of the emergency medication, Buccal Midazolam.

 

Target Group

This training is designed to be delivered to staff working in health and social care settings who work with people with epilepsy.

 

 

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • Identify the history of epilepsy and how people with the condition have been treated
  • Define the term epilepsy
  • Recognise and describe the different types of seizures
  • Identify the different causes of epilepsy
  • Identify possible triggers that may cause someone with epilepsy to have a seizure
  • Identify the risks and safety issues associated with epilepsy
  • Identify different types of medication and treatment of epilepsy including Buccal Midazolam
  • Explain the importance of recording seizures accurately
  • Follow basic first aid for seizures

 

Training methods

The day will be run in a participative way, using delegates’ existing knowledge as a platform. Training methods will include paired work, small group work, quizzes, multi-media clips, case studies, and a limited amount of lecturing.

Exercises and activities will be designed to meet the varied learning needs of the participants.
