Mental Health Awareness

 

Aim

A training session covering a range of mental health issues to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to work positively with people who have mental health needs.

 

Target group

All staff who work with people with mental health support needs.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course participants should be able to:

  •  Define mental wellbeing and mental illness
  •  Identify the possible causes of mental illness
  •  Recognise the risk and protective factors and identify signs that a person's mental health is deteriorating
  •  Describe various conditions including; anxiety, depression, bi-polar affective disorder and schizophrenia
  •  Describe what it may be like to experience mental illness
  •  Desribe the various interventions used to treat mental illness            

 

Training Methods

The day will be run in a participative way, using delegates’ existing knowledge as a platform. Training methods will include paired work, small group work, quizzes, multi-media clips, case studies, and a limited amount of lecturing.
