Working with people that have a Personality Disorder

 

Aims

A training session to give you an overall understanding of what personality disorders are and develop your understanding in this important area of work.

 

Target group

Those who support individuals who have a diagnosed personality disorder.

 

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • Describe what is meant by the term "personality"
  • Identify the 10 main personality disorders
  • Describe how a personality disorder differs from a personality
  • Identify the difference between a personality disorder and other mental disorders
  • Identify the signs of the different types of personality disorder in individuals
  • Identify good practice and treatment options when working with people that have a diagnosed personality disorder
  • Know where to go for more information and support

 

Training methods

The day will be run in a participative way, using delegates’ existing knowledge as a platform. Training methods will include paired work, small group work, quizzes, multi-media clips, case studies, and a limited amount of lecturing.
