Recovery in Mental Health

 

 

Aim

A one-day training session to enable front line staff, working with people with mental health problems, to understand and implement ideas and tools to promote recovery.

 

Target group

Staff who work with people with mental health support needs.

 

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course participants should be able to:

  • Describe what is meant by recovery in mental health
  • Identify the difference between traditional and recovery models of support
  • Identify communication and relationship skills as a way of promoting recovery
  • Describe the use of person centred assessment and positive risk taking
  • Describe the importance of assessing capacity
  • Identify how to make use of person centred support in recovery
  • Identify various tools and ideas for encouraging recovery within mental health services

 

Training Methods

The day will be run in a participative way, using delegates’ existing knowledge as a platform. Training methods will include paired work, small group work, quizzes, multi-media clips, case studies, and a limited amount of lecturing.
