Working Positively with Behaviour

 

Aims

A training course which aims to introduce participants to the key concepts contained in working with difficult behaviour. To develop participants’ understanding of the main issues involved in this work, and to give participants the tools to work more confidently and effectively with behaviour which may challenge.

 

Target Group

This training is designed to be delivered to staff working in health and social care services, across statutory services, and the voluntary, independent and private sectors.   

                        

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • Define behaviour, and explain some of its causes
  • Recognise behaviour and explain why some of the people we work with exhibit behaviours that may challenge
  • Understand how behaviour that challenges may affect the individual, their peer group and the staff
  • Understand some of the functions of behaviour
  • Describe the cycle of emotional arousal
  • Understand the need for clear communication and a consistent approach when working with behaviour
  • Identify several strategies for working with behaviour and managing difficult situations including: behaviour charts, validation and positive behavioural support plans

 

Training Methods

The day will be run in a participative way, using delegates’ existing knowledge as a platform. Training methods will include paired work, small group work, quizzes, multi-media clips, case studies, and a limited amount of lecturing.
